School Travel Plan

Our School Travel Plan is a document produced by the whole school community and other interested parties. It looks at how students, staff and visitors travel to and from school, and contains measures intended to:

In brief, the School Travel Plan identifies current issues and concerns with respect to the whole journey to and from school using survey forms and experience from problems encountered by all users. After establishing problems or issues, the School Travel Plan sets out aims, objectives and targets which try to alleviate these and help to promote safety and healthier lifestyles by supporting alternative methods of travel to the car wherever possible.

TRAVEL PLAN ETHOS

  • improve safety
  • encourage students, parents, guardians and staff to walk and cycle
  • encourage children, parents, guardians and staff to use bus and train services
  • encourage educational programmes relating to child travel and how this links to the environment, safety and health

As A School community, we believe that the School Travel Plan will contribute to the values of the school by providing pupils, staff and parents with an opportunity to enjoy and participate in a physical, healthier lifestyle.

We hope that this will benefit the wider community in regards to the reduction of congestion around the school and improving the safety of our pupils, parents and staff.

We aim to actively teach and promote sustainable travel as part of a healthy lifestyle which all members of our school community may foster.

The health and safety of our children, parents and staff is paramount. We endeavour to make the Travel Plan a continuous working document. We are aware that environmental issues such as these must be high on the educational agenda and will strive to promote health awareness and environmental sustainability throughout our curriculum.

OUR PLEDGE

We pledge to walk to school as often as we can in order to promote healthier lifestyles, a greener environment and safer roads.

We will:

  • motivate others to walk to school and forge great friendships along the way. We will have fun when we walk to school.
  • encourage our whole community to make an effort with using all forms of sustainable transport to improve safety around our schools
  • respect the world in which we live
  • think carefully about how we travel to school, to work and to leisure activities and consider the sustainable alternative
